"Reclaimed”

"Reclaimed" is a photo series that examines the home space as a safe space for women to exist without the societal pressures of being sexually performative. I decided to explore the ways societal norms for women affects our relationship with our body through questioning the current purpose behind boudoir photography. The boudoir room was originally the women's "sulking" room, otherwise known as her private bedroom.
What we see today in media is a mass production of imagery displaying how the ideal woman looks and behaves. It is performative for the male gaze. I wanted to create an environment where women could feel community by identifying and gaining support for all the ways we've been suppressed because of our bodies.
